Building Retaining Walls in Detroit: Our Process

- Stacking & Reinforcement – Blocks are stacked with a slight back-set for added strength. Depending on the wall’s height, geogrid layers may be incorporated for reinforcement.
- Drainage System Installation – A layer of clean limestone behind the wall (one foot deep for every two feet in height) allows proper water drainage. A thick woven fabric prevents soil from mixing with the limestone.
- Water Management Solutions – If a large area slopes toward the wall, we install a sock drain or French drain system to prevent water buildup.
For boulder walls, the process varies slightly: we set the first layer of boulders directly on the excavated ground, ensuring proper pressure distribution to retain soil effectively. Heavy-duty woven fabric is placed behind the boulders to control erosion, with additional limestone added if necessary.
For ledge rock or timber walls, we follow a similar excavation and base preparation method, ensuring stability and long-term performance.
